Tibbetts Award
Dr. Everson won an SBIR Tibbetts Award in October 2001 for a Phase II program to develop a collision warning system for inner-city transit buses.
This Tibbetts Award was the first to a U.S. Department of Transportation contractor since the inception of the SBIR program in 1982.
At a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol in 2001, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts congratulated Dr. Everson (right). Senator Kerry was Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship at the time.
Named for Roland Tibbetts, the person considered the father of the SBIR program, these prestigious, national awards are made annually to small firms, projects, organizations, and individuals that exemplify the best in SBIR achievement.
The emphasis is on recognizing accomplishments where, in the judgment of those closely involved and often most immediately affected, the stimulus of SBIR funding has made an important and definable difference.
In selecting Tibbetts Awards, the focus is primarily on
- economic impact of technological innovation
- business achievement and effective collaborations
- demonstrated state and regional impact and proven support
